Crystal Cleansing

Crystal CleansingWhat is cleansing?

Cleansing when you “clean” your crystals. It is not the same as cleaning with soap and water. Crystals need to be cleansed carefully and in the right way.

Why do I need to cleanse my crystals?

Crystals take on negative energies and they need to be cleared of these energies in order to work well for us again. Cleansing makes sure that the crystals keep on working for maximum efficacy.

When do I need to cleanse my crystals?

Crystals need to be cleaned when you first buy them. Any negative energies from packaging, transport and handling maybe stored in the crystal and passed on to you. Cleansing is required after they have been worn or if they have been used for healing.

Do all crystals need cleansing?

Most crystals do need cleansing but there are a few that are self-cleaning. These are Citrine, Kyanite and Azeztulite. Of course cleansing won’t do any harm to them but it is not necessary.

How do I cleanse my crystals?

There a many ways to cleanse crystals.

 Cleansing with other crystals

Clear Quartz,  Carnelian and Selenite cleanse other crystals. Keep the crystals together. Then cleanse the crystals afterwards. “Place the Carnelian in a bag of tumbled stones and you will never have to cleanse them using any other method. A small crystal can be placed on a Clear Quartz cluster and left overnight.”

“To cleanse your crystals with a chunk of selenite, place the crystals on the selenite and leave them there overnight. The selenite will draw out any unwanted energy from your crystals so that they can be programmed and energized.

It can also be helpful to store your crystals with selenite permanently, as this will prevent them from absorbing any negative energy in the future. A good substitute for selenite if you cannot find it is carnelian.”

 Cleansing in salt water

Immerse in the sea… While the crystals soak send your thoughts that all negativity from these crystals will be washed away and the crystals will become reenergised.

“Running water is a wonderful way to recharge and cleanse most any healing gemstone, particularly clean rivers and streams. Just place your tools in a container (colanders work well) and submerge them for at least two hours, allowing the healing and restorative powers of water to work their magic.”

“use a warm salt bath.

Fill a sink with lukewarm water and one or two tablespoons of sea salt. Place your crystals in the saltwater bath and let them soak. The salt will pull out any energy from the crystal that should not be there.”

“salt can be abrasive and scratch or dull stones, so consider this prior to using this method. You may use the power of ocean water, or you may make a salt solution in a container at home. Allow them to soak and set them under moonlight to simultaneously recharge them. You can also do the reenergizing after the soak.”

 Cleansing in the sun

Place the crystals in the light of the sun for a few hours.

“The sun and the moon are tremendous forces of nature, and one can cleanse and recharge crystals and stones simply by allowing them to sit in a safe place fully exposed to those revitalizing energies. Allow at least 24 hours of exposure, but stones that have absorbed tremendous amounts of energy may take longer, and this is true for most cleansing and charging methods here.”

NOTE: Some fade in sunlight so use moon…

 Cleansing in the moon

Place the crystals in the light of the moon for a few hours or over night is fine. A full moon works best.

 Cleansing using the earth

“Place your stones into a cloth sack and bury them for at least a day, preferably in pure, clean soil. Avoid areas heavily trafficked or tainted with chemicals or pesticides. This method cleanses and recharges most any stone safely.”

Cleansing in sea or rock salt

“Friable crystals or clusters can be left in sea or rock salt overnight. Brush off every speck of salt afterwards as they could damage the crystals.”

Cleansing in brown rice or flowers

“This method isn’t one of the more widely known ways to achieve the task, but healers and wise sages globally often find it to be a favorite way to cleanse their tools for transformation. Surrounding stones in flower petals allows the essence to strip away any negativity, which is replaced by the energy and purity of the flowers. Soaking crystals in brown rice balances and centers a stone’s energy, removes negativity, and dissipates and transforms negative to positive energies. DO NOT Eat the rice after cleansing ”

Cleansing with smudging

“You can smudge crystals or pass them through the light from a candle. You can also visualise them surrounded by light, which purifies and reenergises them.

Cleansing with purpose-made cleaner

A purpose-made cleaner can be used by adding a drop or two on a crystal or sprayed using a atomiser. Purpose-made cleaners can be purchased over the internet.

“Polished surfaces or natural points are easily scratched or damaged. Tumbled stones are more durable. Endless hours turning in fine grit gives them a tough surface. You can keep tumbled stones together in a bag but other crystals should be kept apart.

When not in use wrap in silk or velvet scarf, prevents scratching and protects the crystal against absorbing foreign emanations.”
